Thursday 28 August 2008 The Thames Innovation Centre Fast-Tracks Enterprise in the Bexley Region In recent times, the Thames Innovation Centre (TIC) in the London Borough of Bexley has become known for its stylish modern architecture, its excellent conference facilities and its eco-friendly design. Increasingly, however, it is also becoming well known for its business support program, offering start-ups and established companies alike, a broad range of one-day business courses and one-on-one sessions with expert consultants to help ensure entrepreneurial success in the Bexley region.
One such company to benefit from the TIC’s business support is 'Home from Home Dog Boarding Agency', an internet-based company that provides dog-sitting services to dog owners that are travelling abroad or unable to look after their dog for a while, for whatever reason. ‘Home from Home’ was started by Marilyn Lewis, a dog owner, who was travelling to Florida and didn't want to put her dog into kennels - so she advertised for a dog sitter. When 60 people responded to her advert, she realised that the idea had great potential. 13 years later, Home from Home had 6,500 customers on its database, a busy team of employees and a UK wide presence and had become a thriving business. Earlier this year, Marilyn went on to sell the business for a considerable sum of money.

Thursday 14 August 2008 Training event aims to start a customer service revolution Training company, Leaps and Bounds will be stretching people's imagination with the introduction of an 'open space' event, encouraging call centre staff to start a revolution in open thinking. The open space event, to be held on 9 September at the Thames Innovation Centre in the London Borough of Bexley, is cost free and aims bring together everyone from managing directors to call centre advisors and customers. Friday 8 August 2008 Coffee Shop Helps the TIC Establish itself as the Meeting Place of Choice 'The Coffee Shop has been a great success,' said Lesley Anne Rubenstein.
